I didn’t realize this was an actual holiday, but found out during the course of the Ultimate Blog Challenge that it is indeed a holiday celebrated on January 26th! I absolutely love birds…eagles, hawks, our pet cockatiels…I just love them. Here are a few quick facts about bald eagles:
- They have 7,000 feathers
- Their head is not bald
- It’s scientific name is Haliaeetus leucocephalus
- They can fly at altitudes of 10,000 feet
- They weigh between 10 and 14 pounds
- Their wingspan ranges between 72 and 90 inches

Good to Know! Thank you. I was blessed yesterday to not only see a giant white egret but to watch it sunning itself on the very top of an oak tree with a golden halo of sunshine glowing from behind it. Moments after that I saw a beautiful robust hawk sunning itself on the peak of a tree branch. There was also amazing Birdsong during my entire hike…I tried to experience the wonders of nature, the sky and the beauty of our planet at least every day.
Deidre, I love that! How fun that you got to see a beautiful egret! I also enjoy catching hawks when they are hanging out…or interacting with other beautiful creatures on hikes with nature. I had no idea you were a nature buff! (:
