Wednesday Wisdom: Look It Up.

When I was a kid, I can remember asking my dad a question and him telling me to go look it up in my Funk & Wagnalls… you know, the set of hardback encyclopedias. Or maybe you don’t. Lol

Either way…I learned at a pretty young age that looking stuff up could provide clues and answers to what I was looking for.

I guess I never really got out of the habit of physically looking something up and when Jason and I are out hiking and encounter flowers, plants, insects, snakes, shrubs, etc. that we aren’t familiar with – we take photos and then we refer to “The Laws Field Guide to the Sierra Nevada” to help us narrow in on an answer.

Today’s quest: this beautiful lavender/ purple flower. It stood out among the field of vetch (the darker, magenta-ish purple-y flowers you can see in the background of the picture on the left below).

So I snapped a couple of pics and we are still sifting through the variety of flowers it MIGHT be without conclusive evidence of one over another.

It’s not Baby Blue Eyes, Explorer’s Gentain, Sierra Stickseed, Jacob’s Ladder, Harvest Brodiaea… and a few others.

We’ll continue to investigate and compare the photos we have to ones in the book and then look them up online as well to compare.
