Motivation and Monday: I Can Do Anything!

A long, long time ago on a backpacking trip along the Pacific Crest Trail – somewhere in Northern California… while taking photos of a pristine alpine lake, I heard this whisper in my soul about creating a card deck. I thought it would be so fun to create one. And I was stumped as to what it ought to be, how it would work, what would I call them? So, I tucked that idea away to let it percolate.

Then about 2 years ago, on a backpacking trip, I came up with what I later called “An Ode to Nature.” The miraculous thing was that I “wrote” it while on this trip and I happened to forget my journal on this particular trip. So, every day I was hiking along reciting this powerful and amazing ode. Here’s a little snippet from it:

I get my strength from the rocks…

I get my beauty from the flowers…

I am in nature and nature is in me.

I get my radiance from the sun…

I get my mystery from the moon…

I am in nature and nature is in me.

The entire Ode ended up being 6 passages like that and, as you might imagine, I had to recite it quite a lot over a 2-day backpacking trip to get home and write the whole thing out. haha Oh, and that Ode is paired with a beautiful image from a trip we did and is one of the bonuses with the preorder of the motivation deck – check it out here (natureguidestoselfhealing.com) if you’d like to get your own deck along with the preorder pricing and cool bonuses that go away tonight at midnight.

Over the past few years, on various trips backpacking and snow camping, that nudge kept returning. Until finally, I got it… pair up photos from these trips with a daily mantra from my workout posts. Then add a call to action and help people find their motivation. So that’s exactly what I did. And the first deck is complete… there are two more coming into completion as well! I had no idea the amount of creativity and joy that would come from this project.

It has been an adventure and I’m so very grateful for every step along the way. As with hiking to the summit of a mountain, many breaks are necessary to fully garner the respect and appreciation for the vast beauty that is all around. It’s not just the view from the top… it’s the journey in getting there, too.
