Answers to your Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs) about the 6-week VA Mentor Program
Will there be any wrong answers?
No. I believe the only wrong answer comes from a question not asked. 🙂
What do you love about being a VA?
The opportunity to work with clients whom I love, who do things that I find fun and interesting. I love the flexibility my business offers me. I love being able to travel with my hubby when I can and take my business with me and work remotely.
And what annoys you within the VA business community?
Good question. People who charge too much for their expertise – meaning out of line with what the market will bear. Individuals who over-commit and under-deliver.
Have you written any books?
Yes, I’ve co-authored a chapter in three books (that are listed on the products page of my website) all on business-related topics and I am in the process of completing my first solo project, which is due to be out around the holidays. This book is about my personal grief journey and the experience of losing 28 people over the course of 2 years.
What is your favorite song besides “Don’t Stop Believin” by Journey?
LOL. Actually “Don’t Stop Believin” isn’t my favorite, it’s just one I really like to sing…and I sing as a course of therapy to re-train my speaking vocal cords how to work again. 🙂 I have a pretty wide reaching taste for music…from Katy Perry (like most of her stuff) and Prince to Madonna and Three Dog Night…all the way into classical and music from soundtracks, I really enjoy Vangelis (composer) and Yo Yo Ma.
What is your favorite color?
Purple.
Which word do you like better: Fantastic or Fabulous?
Fabulous! 🙂
How does the class work, do I have to log in a certain time because I would have to coordinate that with work. Â
The class will be working on your own pace and your own timing. I will provide emails and support along the way. We will have scheduled Skype calls every 2 weeks during the program which we would coordinate with our respective schedules.
Are there specific software programs that I would/should get? Â
There isn’t any software needed for this program, other than Internet access. I would say that you’d probably need basic programs like:
- Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint…)
- Adobe reader
- Skype
Here are some programs that I use (as well as the programs above):
- Audacity (I personally use this for audio editing, may not be something you will need)
- Adobe Dreamweaver
- Adobe Photoshop
- Adobe Premiere
- TeamworkPM (time management tool)
- MailChimp (for my newsletters, email marketing)
- GoDaddy (hosting, branded email)
- TeamViewer (for screen sharing meetings with clients)
- Microsoft Publisher
- Microsoft Access
What about hardware to do the job?
Nothing specific comes to mind as far as computer hardware, however, I’d recommend:
- A calendar to plan and schedule your activities (or using an electronic calendar)
- A phone to do follow-up, outreach, etc.
As it relates to both software or hardware, for our time together, items may not be required, however, when you begin working with clients, there may be programs that are required for use with those clients.
